Flip Yeah! Adventures of Pete and Pete

FAREWELL MY LITTLE VIKINGS

When I Met Pete’s Dad

I work at a Staples Copy and Print Center, in a town on Long Island, New York. One day, it was rather slow and an older gentleman came in and asked if I could make some color copies of a photo for him. He had thinning hair, a round face and an entirely gentle look in his eye. He pulled out a “Wrigley family photo” and I said, “Pete & Pete! I love Pete & Pete!” with that, the older gentleman pointed to the photo of Don Wrigley, better known as, Petes’ Dad and said with a glint in his eye and a quick smile, “Yeah, that’s me.” I replied immediately, and eloquently, “Shut up!” and looked back up at him. And there, looking me genuinely in the eye, was Petes’ Dad.

It turned out he was performing in a local theatre production of West Side Story, and a few of the kids in the cast were big fans of the show, so as a courtesy, he was going to sign the picture for him. He offered to print and sign one for me, too. I graciously took the offer.

I now hold an autographed, Wrigley Family Photo, signed by Hardy Rawls- the one and only, Petes’ Dad.
